Monthly Golf Tips by the Mel Sole Golf School.

Hi, I’m Mel Sole, Director of Instruction at the Mel Sole Golf School, headquartered at Pawleys Plantation Golf and Country Club in Pawleys Island, SC.

It is the start of the golfing season for most northern states in the USA, so it is time to evaluate your practice plan.  Set yourself some golfing goals for the year.  How much time are you going to dedicate to playing?  How much time are you going to dedicate to practicing?  What is your handicap now, and what would you like it to be at the end of your season?  These are all questions you should be asking yourself right now.

Let this year be your year of improvement!

Start the season by going to a golf school.  You will learn so much more in a 3-day school (10.5 hours) than you will by taking 10 one-hour lessons.  A golf school is going to work on all aspects of your game.  Full swing, pitching, bunker shots, chipping and putting. The tendency with hourly lessons, that most teachers focus mainly on the full swing.

At the Mel Sole Golf School, we teach our students how to practice.  Just hitting balls on the range does not necessarily improve your game.  Learn to practice with a purpose every time you go to the range.  I had always felt that if I go to the range for an hour and leave the same level golfer as when I arrived, I have just wasted an hour of my time.  Quantify your practice.  Be creative with your practice.  Play shots on the range that you face on the course but never face on the driving range.
