Putt Like A Pro

What’s one of the defining golf skills that sets amateur and professional golfers apart? Putting. In this month’s Mel In Motion video golf tip, Mel provides key strategies that will help you putt like a pro.

The subconscious is a potent entity! The purpose of this drill to Learn to putt like a pro! is to program your subconscious to see yourself as a great putter. How are you going to do that? Watch!

The Setup

The best distance to do this drill is between 4 and 5 feet. Ensure you have a line on the ball (covered in a previous tip) and aim the ball at the intended line. Place your putter behind the ball and make sure the line on the putter matches the line on the ball.

The Drill

Part 1

Starting hitting putts and count the number of putts in a row that you hole. Once you have holed 5 in a row (or more), stop. This is your starting point for this drill.

Part 2

Each time you return to do this drill (definitely more than once a week), your target number must increase. Once you pass your number, stop. You want to walk away with success. Sleep on that success. Once you can hole 10 in a row, start increasing your increments by 5. Once you can hole 50 in a row (or more), something happens in your subconscious.

When you subconsciously see the ball going in the hole, in the hole, in the hole, it starts to believe you cannot miss.

Each time you play, hit a few putts on the putting green and try and hole 10 in a row. Then, finally, you will go to the 1st tee, having pre-programmed yourself for success!
