Watch how to make this simple training aid from a piece of plexiglass from Home Depot!

Master Professional Golf Instructor Mel Sole shares the design of a simple yet effective DIY golf training aid that improves your putting by helping you hit more putts on line.  The most important aspect of putting is keeping the clubface square to the intended target throughout the stroke.  Improve Your Putting With a DIY Training Aid that will give you instant feedback on whether your putter face was square at impact or not.

Hoe to make the Training Aid.

They make this training aid, but a piece of 12" by 24" plexiglass from Home Depot.  It comes with one side covered with a protective film.  Take a boxcutter and a ruler, cut a strip about 1/4" wide down the middle of the Plexiglas, and tear that piece off. Next, take a can of paint spray (color of your choice) and spray the exposed line.  Wait until the paint has dried and pulled the remaining two pieces of film off, leaving you with a piece of plexiglass with a 1/4" line right down the middle.

Drill 4 holes on the corners big enough for a tee to fit through.  Drill 4 more holes at one end.  Two that are slightly wider than a golf ball width and two more slightly wider than that.

How to Use the Training Aid.

Place the training aid on the putting green aimed at the hole if it is a straight putt.  If not, aim it taking into account the break.  Place 4 tees on the corners to steady the glass and two tees either on the wider of the two holes if you are still trying to improve your putting stroke or the narrower two holes if you are working on hitting the ball on the exact line you want.

The Feedback.

"Focused repetition with feedback" is my definition of practice.  This device gives you instant feedback if your putter face is not perfectly square. For example, I recently discovered that I was aiming my putter slightly to the left as I kept hitting the left tee of the gate.  Taking more time on my alignment helped me start putting a whole lot better!
