I recently enjoyed attending a teaching workshop given by GOLF Magazine Top 100 Teacher and Hall of Fame Member Mike Adams.  Mike's knowledge about the golf swing is phenomenal, and I learned a lot from him and his two fellow presenters EA Tischler and Dr. David Wright.

In this video, in conjunction with Golf Life TV, Mike tells you how to find the correct backswing position for your body type.

Here is the test for your perfect backswing.

By going down on both knees and taking your backswing, look to see if the shaft makes a T with the shoulders at the top.  If they do, THAT is your perfect position at the top.  If it does not, keep trying until it does.  Now stand up and take your backswing, getting the club and shoulder turn into the same position you had down on your knees! This is a myth, buster!  Everyone thinks the club needs to be parallel to the ground and pointing down the line.  But some of us (including me) cannot get into that position.  Now you can have the perfect backswing for your body type!
