Today, David Olberding, lead instructor with the Mel Sole Golf School, talks about the etiquette of raking a bunker correctly.  Always try and leave the bunker in exactly, or better, shape than you found it!

Some courses have a rake at every bunker, and some don't.  Some courses have a rake in each cart, and some don't.  There is no consistency, so how do we expect golfers to know how to rake a bunker when every course is different.  The CGSAA (Golf Course Superintendents Association of America) should bring this up at their next AGM and reach a consensus on the right thing.  Just do it!

David demonstrates the correct procedure for raking a bunker.  Pull down some sand from the face to fill your divot.  Once that is over, shallow the rake's angle and start raking your footprints all the way out, following the way you can in.  Didn't know raking a bunker was so technical?  Then you've been doing it wrong for years.  Follow this procedure the next time you're in a bunker.  The people behind you will thank you!
